Das Kampfsystem legt in einem Rollenspiel die Regeln für den Ablauf eines Kampfes fest, einem zentralen Spielelement. Kämpfe werden in jedem Teil der Serie absolviert, um Erfahrungspunkte, Gil und gelegentlich Schätze zu erspielen. Es gibt in den unterschiedlichen Final Fantasys verschiedene Kampfsysteme:
